Security guard hurt in Arlington apartment complex shooting privateofficer.org

Arlington TX January 2 2021 A security guard was hurt in a shooting Thursday night at an Arlington apartment complex, police said.

An Arlington police officer had been reviewing security footage with the victim and another security guard in connection to a different shooting when they heard gunshots outside, police said.

They were inside the leasing office of the Las Lomas Apartments on the 800 block of Timberlake Drive at the time.

As they went outside, they saw four people firing a rifle off, police told WFAA.

The guards and officer confronted them, at which point one of the people firing the rifle turned around and shot multiple rounds in the direction of the officer and armed guards, according to police.

One of those rounds grazed a guard and caused a minor injury, police said.

All three shot back towards the gunfire, according to police. The guards fired a combined total of 31 rounds between them, while the officer fired her weapon three times.

Officials do not believe at this time that the gunfire from the officer or guards hit anyone.

The four people fled the scene in a vehicle. As they were driving away, additional responding officers passed the vehicle. Police say as they were making a U-turn, one of the suspects jumped out with the rifle and ran away.

They are still at large and the gun has not been recovered. The three other people in the car were arrested, as there were narcotics in the car, and two of them were also charged with discharging a firearm in a municipality, police said.

"This is going to require a lot of investigation," Lt. Christopher Cook told WFAA.

Surveillance footage and the officer's body camera captured much of the incident, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Det. Julia Hall at 817-459-5325. Those who want to remain anonymous can call Tarrant County Crime Stoppers at 817-469-8477.
