Hull woman charged with stealing handbag at Cohasset transfer station

COHASSET - Police say a Hull woman was arrested for purse snatching Monday after an officer recognized her while responding to an unrelated medical call.

Ashley H. Wilfand, 38, is due to be arraigned Tuesday on charges of larceny over $1,200 and breaking and entering into a vehicle with the intent to commit a felony. Police did not say Monday whether she had posted bail after her arrest.

Police say Wilfand was caught on camera Sunday taking a handbag from a car at the public works transfer station while its owner was dropping off recyclables. Police said Wilfand could be seen on surveillance footage driving a red Toyota Rav4 and wearing a purple hat and distinctive running pants.

Police said an officer was responding to a medical emergency at a Jerusalem Road home on Monday when he noticed the red Toyota in the driveway. Inside the house, he said he ran into Wilfand wearing the same purple hat and running pants.
