Four die in Siliguri; Malda dip in new cases continues -73 new cases in Darjeeling district -104 in Alipurduar

SNS, SILIGURI, 1 SEPTEMBER 2020 : Four persons, including a woman convict, who had tested positive for Covid-19, died in Siliguri today. Sources said the female undertrial from the Jalpaiguri Central Correctional Home died in the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) today. A 54-year-old resident of Bhaktinagar area also died hours after his admission at the NBMCH. A 65-year-old resident of Kaliaganj in North Dinajpur district also died there. Another person died in a private nursing home.

73 new cases in Darjeeling district

A total of 73 Covid-19 cases were recorded in Darjeeling district in the past 24 hours, sources said. Thirty-seven cases were found in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation area, of them 20 cases in areas that fall under the district.

Twelve new cases are from Naxalbari, 11 cases in Matigara, eight in Kharibari and three cases in Phansidewa blocks in the plains. Five cases are from Pulbazaar, four from Darjeeling Municipality, three cases each at Sukhia Pokhari and Takdah, while one case has been detected in Kurseong Municipality. health department officials said. 41 Covid patients had been discharged from hospitals today, including those who completed their home isolation.

Continuing a dip in the number of new Covid cases, Malda today reported only 13 infections among the 579 tested in the VRDL in the Malda Medical College and Hospital last night.

With these, theVRDL has so far tested 76447 swab samples, officials said. Among the positive cases last night were eight front Manikchak, four from English Bazaar Municipality and one from Old Malda.

104 in Alipurduar

A total of 104 persons were tested positive for Covid-19 in Alipurduar district in the past 24 hours. The fresh cases has taken the district's tally to 2150. However, among them 950 have already recovered and have been discharged from hospitals, sources said. A total of 13 Covid patients have also died in the district so far, it is learnt 

28 new in N Dinajpur

In North Dinajpur, 28 new cases were detected inthe past 24 hours. Four cases are from different wards in the Raiganj Municipality, while the rest are from areas under Dalkhola, Karandighi and Kaliyaganj, sources said. A veteran lawyer at the Raiganj Judges Court and a resident of Ward 16 in Raiganj was also tested positive this afternoon.

The Chairman of the Raiganj Municipality, Sandip Biswas, said, "The spread of the virus has been controlled in our municipality area to some extent. We are leaving no stone unturned to make people aware of using masks and maintaining social distance."
