Phoenix AZ March 7 2020 As supporters gathered in Phoenix on Thursday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum for Democratic Sen. Bernie Sanders’ campaign rally, a woman from Mesa was arrested after combative interactions with a security guard and Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers.
Judy Louise Schafer, 61, appeared to be severely intoxicated while operating a motorized scooter on the concourse level of the venue, Media Specialist for the Arizona DPS Bart Graves told KTAR News 92.3 FM in an email.
After abandoning her scooter, Schafer was crawling on the ground.
Schafter was then approached by a security guard who asked her to stand.
The suspect responded by biting the security guard on the arm, according to the email.
DPS troopers then intervened, asking Schafer to leave, who refused.
After becoming combative with DPS troopers, Schafer was escorted out of the building and then taken to the hospital. The security guard has also received medical treatment.
