2 Virginia Walmart security agents, deputy sheriff shot by suspected shoplifter privateofficer.org

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. January 3 2021

Authorities say that a suspected shoplifter has shot two Walmart loss prevention agents and a deputy sheriff.

According to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office, the shooting happened at the Dulles Crossing Plaza in Sterling at around 5 p.m.

Just before 8 p.m. the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said the suspect was in the custody of Fairfax County authorities.

Sheriff Mike Chapman said that store security agents called for deputies after talking to a man they believed had stolen from the store.

Two Loudoun County deputies responded.

When deputies tried to take the Hispanic man into custody, Sheriff Chapman said the man pulled a gun out of his waistband and opened fire.

Their preliminary investigation revealed the loss prevention agents were each hit once, while the deputy was shot multiple times. All three are currently in stable condition.

Deputies shot back, injuring the man. The suspect then ran out of the store and drove off in a truck he found with the keys inside.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to assist the sheriff’s office.

The investigation is on-going.
