87 new cases in Darj district


SNS, SILIGURI, 7 SEPTEMBER 20 : A 60 year-old resident of Salugara in Siliguri died at the dedicated hospital for Covid-19 patients at Kawakhali here today, sources said. She had been admitted to the Desun (Covid) II ospital yesterday.

Meanwhile, Darjeeling district reported 87 new Covid 19 cases, while the Siliguri Municipal Corporation recorded 49 infections, including 36 in areas in the corporation that fall under the district, official sources said.

Eleven cases have been found in Matigara, 11 in Phansidewa, 10 in Naxalbari, and one in Kharibari blocks. Seven cases have been found in Mirik, five in Sukna, two cases in Pulbazaar, two at Sukhia Pokhari, and two in Darjeeling Municipality.

The health department said 58 patients had been discharged, including those who completed their home isolation treatment today.

34 new Covid-19 cases in Malda

Malda today saw yet another day of low number of Covid infections, with the district reporting only 34 new cases in samples that were tested in the Malda Medical College and Hospital and through rapid antigen tests, sources said. A total of 796 samples were tested at the VRDL in the MMCH and only 28 were found positive, the sources said.

Meanwhile, Malda strictly enforced the first state bi weekly lockdown for the month of September today. While people tried to violate the lockdown, police strictly enforced the same.

'Ihe entire district went into a holiday mood during the lockdown and very few people were seen outside of their houses today Shopkeepers tried to open shutters at a few places, but police took immediate action to stop them, sources said.

Nilgai hits Malda street

A Nilgai (Asian antelope) was spotted running on the empty streets of Domhat in Manikchak in Malda amid the lockdown on Monday morning Police, along with forest officials, later recovered the which was injured, and which is said to have been swept away by flood waters.

34 in Alipurduar

In Alipurduar, 34 persons were tested positive for the virus today. Sources said 1199 patients have been discharged from hospitals after they recovered from Covid-19 so far.
