83 fresh cases in Darjeeling district -Three die in Siliguri- S Dinajpur Covid cases up again


SNS, BALURGHAT/SILIGURI, 9 SEPT 20: South Dinajpur today detected 102 fresh cases of Covid- 19, the highest single-day spike in the past 15 days.

The fresh cases have taken the district's tally to 4193 cases, while 3778 patients have been discharged from hospitals after they recovered, sources said.

Of the 84 fresh cases reported from tests conducted in Malda, six are from Balurghat town, while the others are front different blocks like Hilli (14), Banshihari (9), Kuntarganj (16), Tapan (8), Gangarampur (8) and Harirampur (7).The others were found positive in antigen and TrueNat tests conducted in Balurghat.

Meanwhile, the district administration has extended the partial lockdown for three more days in the district's containment zones. Restrictions will be eased in these areas from 8 am to 4 pm.

Containment zones have been marked in some rural weekly markets (haat).

Hazratpur Bazaar in Tapan, Tapan Chandipur Main Bazaar, Rampur Bus Stand in Harsura Gram Panchayat (GP), Rampur Haat, Balapur Grameen Haat in Malanch GP, Vikahar Haat in Ramchandrapur GP are containment zones. Maharajpur, Thengapara,Sukdevpur,Phulbari, Pran Sagar and Sarvamangla markets have also been marked as such zones.

"As the infection is going up again, the district task-force has decided to keep a close watch on the situation," District Magistrate Nikhil Nirmal said after a meeting of the Covid task force today.

51 new Covid-19 cases in Malda

In Malda, 51 persons have freshly tested positive for the virus. After 29 August, this is the first time that the figure has crossed the 50 mark in the district. English Bazaar Municipality area saw a spike in cases with 23 infections and the English Bazaar block had nine cases, sources said.

78 in North Dinajpur

North Dinajpur reported 78 new cases in the past 24 hours, taking the tally there to more than 2650 cases. The fresh cases included TMC MLA from Kaliyaganj, Tapan Deb Singha.The MLA is now under home isolation in Khotsa village in Kaliyaganj. Mr Deb was supposed to leave for Kolkata yesterday evening to attend the assembly session.

"However, he tested himself in the State General Hospital in Kaliyaganj, and the report that came in the afternoon yesterday was positive.

Three die in Siliguri

A 65-year-old woman of Belgachi under the Naxalbari block of Siliguri Sub-Division died at the Desun (Covid) Hospital today, sources said. Another 65-year-old resident of Bihara also died there, sources said.

A 21-year-old resident of Islampur, who had sepsis, died at the Respiratory ICU in the North Bengal Medical College and hospital today. He was tested positive for the virus, sources said.

83 fresh cases in Darjeeling district

On the other hand, 83 new cases were found in Darjeeling district today. Siliguri Municipal Corporation recorded 40 cases, of which 29 were in areas that fall in the district, sources said.

Fourteen cases are from Naxalbari, 12 from Phansidewa, 10 from Matigara and three cases from Kharibari blocks. Darjeeling registered arise with nine fresh infections in the municipality area .Two cases were also found in Sukuna, two at Sukhia Pokhari, one in Mirik and one at Pulbazaar.

Sources added that 38 patients had been discharged from state-run health facilities and home isolation.
