3 die in Siliguri; South Dinajpur spike - Death rate in NB up- 85 new cases in Darjeeling district


SNS, BALURGHAT, 10 SEPTEMBER 20: Three persons who had tested positive for Covid-19 died at three separate health facilities in Siliguri today, sources said.

A 75-year-old resident of South Shanti Nagar under the Bhaktinagar police station died at the Desun Hospital, while a 60-year-old Alipurduar resident died in a private nursing home. Another (30 year-old resident of Bangaigaon, Assam, died in the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH).

85 new cases in Darjeeling district

Meanwhile, Darjeeling district recorded 85 new Covid cases in the past 24 hours. Thirty-seven cases have been traced in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, of which 26 are in areas in the district. Seventeen cases have been detected in Naxalbari, 11 in Matigara, six in Phansidewa and three in Kharibari blocks. On the other hand, six cases have been found in Darjeeling Municipality, six at Sukhia Pokhari, six at Sukna, two in Kurscong Municipality and two cases in Pulbazar, sources said.

Sources said 76 patients had been discharged and completed their home isolation.

Fire at NBMCH

An oxygen cylinder caught fire at the male casualty ward at the NBMCH through a burning mosquito repellent coil used for a patient near his bed today.

Sources said there were many patients in the ward when the incident happened. The hospital staff doused the fire by sprinkling water.

106 in South Dinajpur

After 102 cases yesterday, South Dinajpur detected 106 more Covid -19 cases today, sources said.

According to health department sources, the samples had been sent to the VRDL. in the Malda Medical College for tests on 8 September. A total of 95 positive reports came from there, while the remaining tested positive in antigen and TrueNat tests in Balurghat.

The total number of infections has now gone up to 4307 in the district, while 3862 patients have been discharged from hospitals so far. There are now 418 active cases, with only 14 of them admitted in the Covid hospital. "A total of 343 patients am undergoing treatment in home isolation, while 61 are in safe houses," a source said.

Death rate in NB up

Meanwhile, government data showed today that though the death rate had decreased in the state significantly, it has increased in North Bengal. Eight persons died of Covid19 in North Bengal in the past 24 hours and until morning today, the Health Bulletin issued by the state government said.A total of 268 persons have died of Covid- 19 in North Bengal as of today, while 41 persons died in Bengal in the past 24 hours. With the 41 fresh deaths, 3771 patients have died of Covid-19 in Bengal as of today. The bulletin said that the rate of discharge was 85.95 per cent as of today.

The Health Bulletin had yesterday evening showed fresh deaths from four districts of Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Darjeeling and Malda.The number of Covid-19 cases is on the rise in the region, despite the lockdown. In Alipurduar, the virus has claimed 26 lives so far, while 37 died in Jalpaiguri, 23 in North Dinajpur, 27 in South Dinajpur and 44 in Malda, the data showed. Only three Covid patients have died so far in Kalimpong.

Notably, 3,730 patients, including three from other states, have died of Covid -19 in Bengal as of 8 September.

Health authorities have registered the total number of Covid cases in North Bengal districts separately There are 3010 total cases in Alipurduar, 3954 in in Cooch Behar, 5828 in Darjeeling, 570 in Kalimpong, 4382 in Jalpaiguri, 2643 in North Dinajpur, 4265 in South Dinajpur and 5305 cases in Malda as of 8 Sept.
