NBMCH lab tests highest number of samples in state so far :


SNS, Siliguri, 27 August 2020: A total of 1,18,018 samples have been tested through the RTPCR method for Covid- 19 by the Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) since 29 March this year, according to the state health and family welfare department's bulletin, making it the highest number oftests in the whole of Bengal so far.

The VRDL at the NBMCH was the only laboratory that served all eight districts of north Bengal at the initial stages of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Though the SSKM Hospital in Kolkata started testing samples on 17 March, it is in the second position after testing 1,02,532 swab samples so far. Significantly, 16,74,133 samples were tested in all 72 laboratories, including private ones acrossWest Bengal as of 26 August, government data showed.

With five fresh deaths, 196 patients died of Covid- 19 in eight districts of North Bengal as of 25 August. Of them, 67 died in Darjeeling district, including many of them from areas under the Siliguri Municipal Corporation and Siliguri sub-division.

After Darjeeling, 33 Covid patients have died in Malda, followed by Jalpaiguri district with 30 deaths. Ten Covid patients have died in Alipurduar, five in Cooch Behar, 20 in North Dinajpur and 23 in South Dinajpur, according to the government bulletin.

It may be noted that a total of 1,47,775 Covid cases were detected in West Bengal as of 26 August. Of them, 1,17,857 were discharged till 25 August, while the rate of discharge has been recorded at 79.75 percent.

Fresh government data released today evening showed that the state recorded 53 more deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of deaths in Bengal to 3017.

In North Bengal, 22,314 cases were detected as of 26 August. Of them, 17,775 patient s have already been discharged.

As the NICED tested 97,066 samples, Malda Medical College and Hospital tested 69,291 samples (RT-PCR) as of 26 August and since 8 April. Similarly, Raiganj MCH tested 17,187 since 26 June, and Cooch Behar GMCH has tested 11,387 samples since 6 June so far.

On the other hand, the Biswa Bangla Krirangan Covid Hospital in Jalpaiguri tested 13,896 samples through the TrueNat machine since 31 May.

Dr PK Saha Hospital in Cooch Behar also tested 135 samples since 11 August through the TrueNat machine, while Anandalok Siliguri has conducted 581 tests since 27 June, and the laboratory in Falakata has tested 2184 samples from 20 May.

Malbazaar has tested 14 since 18 August, Balurghat district hospital has tested 1637 since 22 May, Alipurduar has tested 1176 since 16 June, Chanchal hospital in Malda has tested 365 since 28 May and Gangarampur hospital in South Dinajpur has 449 since 16 July through the CBNAAT system, the government data reveals.
