Student journalist in the FAMU School of Journalism and Graphic Communication (SJGC) won multiple Society of Professional Journalism (SPJ) Sunshine State Awards. The ceremony was held virtually on Saturday, August 15.
FAMU received the following awards:
First Place-Best Feature Story
Bleu Bell, Alabama Town Celebrates 54 Years of Jimmie Lee Jackson's Sacrifice
First Place- Best Coverage of LGBT Issues
Nallah Brown, Student Creates Trans Fitness Organization
Third Place- Best Student Publication
Journey Magazine Staff
SPJ is a national organization "dedicated to free press as a cornerstone of our nation." Per its website, SPJ assists colleges and universities in "developing strong journalism schools, encourages diversity and creates a profession representative of the public it serves."
