MEAC, and FAMU, postpones fall sports because of COVID

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, of which FAMU is a member, joined a growing number of athletic conferences that have cancelled or postponed fall sports because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.  The Patriot League, Ivy League, SIAC, and CIAA had previously suspended all fall sports indefinitely.

The MEAC hasn’t determined whether or not the fall schedule will be moved to the 2021 spring semester.  Nor has it ruled out playing football and other sports in the spring.  A spring season would raise several potential challenges -- scheduling logistics, player eligibility, recruits and transfers and other issues that would have to be worked out with the NCAA.

Currently, the conference plans to proceed with winter sport as scheduled, unless health and medical professionals advise otherwise.

Nine MEAC sponsor football, however, three of them --FAMU, NC A&T, and Bethune-Cookman —are leaving the conference next July.
