FAMU women’s softball coach Veronica Wiggins has retired from coaching after 29 seasons as head coach. She compiled a 774-904 overall record and won 13 MEAC softball tournament championships and 11 NCAA postseason appearances.
She was named MEAC Coach of the Year five-times, and Outstanding MEAC Tournament Coach 13-times. During her tenure, the game moved from slow-pitch to fast-pitch. Wiggins’ final season as coach was cut short She served as a mentor to young coaches throughout her career. Her final season as coach was cut short as the MEAC, and FAMU, suspended all spring sports due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
FAMU assistant softball coach Constance Orr is expected to take over the reigns of the program.
Wiggins won’t be leaving FAMU athletics, she’ll be moving into a new role as Director of Player Development and Alumni Affairs assisting with student-athletes with housing, life skills, the Hall of Fame, and former- student-athlete engagement.
