WATERLOO, Iowa March 13 2020
Several men ambushed an armored truck outside of a Waterloo bank and a shooting ensued injuring one of the robbery suspects.
Police say the shooting happened Wednesday morning outside a U.S. Bank branch in northeastern Iowa.
The armed men engaged security officers in a shootout and security officers were able to hit one of the men.
Police and medics who arrived on the scene found the man with gunshot wounds and he was taken to a hospital with serious injuries where he later died.
No security officers were injured.
His name has not been released.
Police say an initial investigation showed that people in a vehicle tried to rob the Rochester armored car in the bank's parking lot when the shootout began.
Police later located the vehicle they believed was used in the attempted robbery.
No arrests have been reported.
