An NYPD officer who’s been in the hospital for nearly six weeks after an off-duty car crash in Queens has died, police said Friday.

Michael Ellis, 34, died Thursday at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he’d been in critical condition since Jan. 17, cops said.
The crash that killed the cop happened just before midnight, when a 28-year-old driving a 2006 Nissan Maxima blew through a stop sign at Nashville Boulevard and Lucas Street in St. Albans and slammed into Ellis’ 2010 Nissan Altima, according to police.
The cop lost control of his car, slamming into three parked cars and a telephone pole before being thrown from the Altima, which burst into flames, cops said.
No arrests have been made and police are still investigating the crash.
Ellis was assigned to the 63rd Precinct in Brooklyn and had been on the job for seven years, according to the NYPD.
The 28-year-old driver and a passenger in the 2006 Altima were taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center as well, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries to their legs, cops said.
